The short version
Retreeve is a directory of local businesses in Northern Arizona. You can browse and search all of it without an account; accounts exist only for business owners managing a listing. We do not set tracking cookies, we do not run advertising, and we do not sell or share personal information.
What we collect when you browse
Listing activity. When you open a listing, or use its phone, website or map link, we record that the listing was viewed or the link was used, the time, and the site you arrived from if it was not ours. This lets us show a business how often its listing is used.
To count visitors without identifying them, each of these records carries a short code calculated from your IP address and browser type together with the date. The code changes every day, cannot be turned back into an IP address, and is not linked to anything else about you. We do not store your IP address in our database.
Page visits. We use Vercel Web Analytics to see which pages are visited, which sites send visitors to us, and the general type of device, browser and country. It does not use cookies and does not follow you across other websites or from one day to the next.
Abuse limits. Search and the contact form are limited per visitor. The counters use the same kind of daily code and are deleted within two days.
Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps standard request logs, which include IP addresses, for a limited period for security and troubleshooting.
Search
When you search, the text you type is sent to Anthropic, whose Claude model turns your question into search filters. Only the text of the question is sent — nothing that identifies you. We do not save your searches in our database, though a search appears in the address of the results page and so in the server logs described above. Please do not put personal information in the search box.
When you contact us
If you use the contact form, we keep your name, email address and message, and the listing it is about, so that we can act on it and reply. We use them for nothing else. Ask us to delete a message and we will.
Owner accounts
If you create an account to manage a business listing, we keep your email address and, if you set one, your password — stored only in hashed form, which we cannot read. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google and nothing else.
We use your email address to sign you in, to check that you are entitled to manage a listing (for example, that it is at the business’s own website domain), and to contact you about that listing. We record which listings you have claimed and the changes you make to them.
While you are signed in, a cookie keeps you signed in. It is used for nothing else, and visitors who do not sign in never receive it. To close your account and delete its data, use the contact form.
Payments
The Featured plan is paid for through Stripe. Your card details are entered on Stripe’s own page and go to Stripe; they never reach our servers and we cannot see them. We give Stripe your email address and which listing the payment is for, and Stripe tells us whether the subscription is paid, when it renews, and whether it has been cancelled. That is all we store about your payment.
Business listings
Listings are compiled from openly licensed public data, and from businesses’ own public websites. The sources are named on our data sources page. A listing shows business contact details such as a name, address, phone number and website.
Some listings are for individual professionals — for example a physician or an agent — because the public sources list them as places of business. If a listing is about you or your business and you want it corrected or removed, use the contact form and we will deal with it.
Who handles data for us
We use a small number of service providers to run the site: Vercel (hosting and page analytics), Supabase (database and account sign-in), Anthropic (search), Resend (account emails) and Stripe (payments). They process data on our behalf to provide those services.
Children
Retreeve is a general-audience business directory. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes and questions
If what we collect changes, this page will change with it and the date at the top will be updated. Questions and requests go through the contact form.
